 2018 Preview 


       Fort Payne completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region seven, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Fort Payne's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Homewood by a score of 28-21.

       The Wildcats had some tough luck last season as three of their five losses were by less than eight points.

       Since 2010, Fort Payne has gone a combined 61-29. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 6A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Fort Payne has managed to compile a record of 157-101. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 6A and 83rd in the AHSAA.




       The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Chris Elmore as they enter the 2018 season.

       Coach Chris' overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 27-25 (51.9%). Over the course of his career, Coach Chris' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times .

       The Fort Payne Wildcats will play in Class 6A region eight during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in 6A but move from region seven over to region eight.

       The Wildcats will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season.

       The Wildcats open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Pell City on Friday, August 24 at Pete Rich-Alumni Stadium. Last year the Pell City Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in second place in Class 6A region seven. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Shades Valley by a score of 34-7.

       Fort Payne and Pell City have met a total of 12 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 9-3-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2017 with Fort Payne winning by a score of 19-14.
